Ecover Washing-Up liquid (Product Review)

Ecover Camomile & Clementine Washing-Up Liquid

Smile-o-meter 😊😊😊😊

First off, no lies, I did not have high hopes for this product and shamefully grabbed a bottle of trusted Fairy liquid too, just encase. One of my pet peeves is the false economy and uselessness of cheap dish washing liquid. After all, when it comes to the delft you place your food on and the cutlery you put into your mouth, is it not of the utmost importance it is clean? Especially when the previous user might be unknown to you? A test of the quality of a venue’s kitchen is before you order your food, order a drink. If the glass smells of egg, flattens your drink or is still dirty –run for your life!! You will not be caught short with this product though and we were pleasantly surprised.

Price – Tesco £2.20 (950ml). Expensive when compared to similar size bottles from other brands but worth the peace of mind.

Ingredients – Boasting the product is plant based, biodegradable, cruelty free and good for the environment what's not to like right? Well in the words of Mick Bremans, chief executive of Ecover, “Our products harm the environment. They are not environmentally friendly. We never say they are environmentally friendly.” Their claim is that the product is “ecological.” Bit of Greenwashing, of course, after all it was the poor product reviews, a thirst for profits and a myth that green products don’t work, (guilty) that has pushed what was an ethical company to move it a not so pleasant direction. That all being said in a recent Which? report they had this to say about Ecover’s washing-up liquids. “Ecover is the only brand to meet every eco criteria we asked about. It’s the only brand that uses a 100% recycled bottle, and the only brand to offer a refill scheme, which allows you to dramatically reduce your plastic consumption.” In summary the bit extra you pay goes towards research into creating products that work with eco systems, instead of against them. We will for now, pledge our support Mr Bremans, but don’t drop the ball as we will be watching!!

Packaging – Made from 100% recycled material and fully recyclable. Want to refill and reduce your plastic waste? Click here for your closest refill point.  https://www.ecover.com/store-locator/

Summary – You do need to use a little more than you would for say Fairy liquid however, still a substantial amount less than some store’s own brands and cheaper brands. The great thing about this product, unlike Fairy and other products there isn't a film that coats your dishes. This so-called film tends to require more rinsing and therefore, higher consumption of water. Sometimes you don’t get it all and the next glass of water you pour has a foam top? Ecover washing-up liquid washes well, cuts through grease like the best of them, foams up nicely, has a distinctive but nice fresh scent and as mentioned above rinses well. This actually seems to make the dishes dry quicker. Strange, but with streak free glasses without the need to buff, it’s a thumbs up from me. Overall, one happy face is deducted as it isn't 100% eco-friendly but it’s a great product.

Wow thanks for the research, a big help for us that want to be ecofriendly yet unsure of which alternatives to try and which products actually do what they say they will 😁👍👍
